two gateway nodes with Samba+CTDB, working fine and is quite stable. I
don't have NFS on it though.

If you have a stripe spanning multiple OSTs, it will allocate objects on each
OST. Until you write data to them, they will be empty.
In your example, only 100KB of data will be written to disk.
