Hi Charles,
La Princesse by Mouton clearly is in A minor and is thus designated in
Barbe ms. Also, on Lislevand's CD it is in the A minor section; so, his
designation as A major obviously is a typo.
As for ms. Barbe, you will perhaps have guessed already that the endings

Recently there was a discussion, which I glanced at, about lute music/virtue.
I have in the last days discovered yet another virtue of the lute. This
winter in the UK has been horribly damp and I've gone and got a touch of lumbago
(shot in the back by a witch, as the Germans say). And the only

This sounds quite strange: I've recorded the Castaldi book some years ago;
my theorbo has a diapason of 81cm, and my hands are quite large. I think
that it's rather
For me its the other way around. I keep doing the stretching
exercises that my physical therapist prescribed so that I can sit and
play without pain. Otherwise, when I tense up (especially during
lessons, when I'm really concentrating) I can only go for a few
minutes before the ache sets in.
It's funny: exactly yesterday I sat with the lute, just by chance, on a
sort of feetrest I have in front of my couch. It has a slight slope,
more or less the same which the cushion described by Kenneth Be has.
That moderate slope and the height makes a nice place to sit when
playing. BTW,
Craig,
you're right of course. Let's just shut off all those musicians coming from
other instruments taking up an interest for the lute. Let's quench their
quest for info or commeraderie, however interested, irritating, airbags,
advanced in age or whatever they should happen to be. Has someone
Dear Betsy,
Wow! What a comprehensive reply this was! Many thanks for this. I especially like
the detailed CD list you have enclosed. I will contact Oliver about his Encyclopedia
of New Lute Music.
Once again many thanks for your detailed reply.

Chris and all,
I believe there are a couple of movements from this mass in the Capirola
too. I love these intabs since they show a very personal lutenist's view of
the finest in vocal music. Thanks for putting this up.
For those playing it for the first time, try to get a recording and follow
Et in Terra and Qui Tollis. Jacob Herringman has a nice rendition of Et in
Terra on his Josquin CD.
