Ok, Ed, I've tried it. I had let the old ones wear down a bit and then just
added a new fret that was about 20 microns thicker. For example , I added a
.87 next to a .85 and between the wear of the old fret and the thicker new
one there were absolutely no buzzing problems whatsoever.
This likely refers to the lute-type instruments that were played in
pre-islamic conquest Mediterranean Europe. One mid-size descendant is still
played in Morocco as Kuitra. Long necked lutes of Pandurae type are
depicted in a lot of illuminated Catalan Mss (notably the Beatus of
Llieban), and
I am giving a lute recital (baroque: Conradi, Weiss and Vivaldi lute
trio) in Nottingham (UK) next Saturday evening, 15th May.
The entrance is 15 pounds (including cheese wine in the interval). The
proceeds are in aid of Brain Damaged Children and Adults.
