As I will be in Hawaii, I might try to play it on a ukulele and
convert someone to Francesco ( I also live in Milan, I might actually
be Donatella Da Milano...)
In San Diego I've already tried to convert at least one guitarist to

Dear all,
whoever wants to share their performance of a piece by Francesco da
Milano:
To celebrate his birthday I would be willing to collect the music you
send and will put it on a website.
Everything which arrives until august, 18th will be published.
Best wishes

I shall be practising for a concert that I and a friend are giving on the
19th of Francesco and Matelart duets (among other things). I didn't realise
that his birthday was on the 18th, but I shall make sure that I mention it
to the audience.

Dear Lutenetters,
I have been sorting out my music shelves and found some great things that I
noticed I have not used in a long time.
One of these being a modern edition of Petrucci - Harmonice Musicices
Odhecaton A . It is edited by Helen Hewitt and it was published by Da Capo
Press in
1978.
How about a MP3 collection of our favorite Francesco. I would offer to
organize it ...
All the best

Absolutely...or at least nylon is authentic to the 20th c. "The Treatyse
of Fyshynge wyth an Angle" (anon. 1496, in The Book of St. Albans, attr.

I just checked my diary and, I have a 'window'...
Uh-ho... - This is not another office 'whip-round'is it?
Oh, - Francesco da Milano...In that case, a world-wide lute fest? Count me
in. Any suggestions?
Not only is nylon completely authentic but one eliminates all traces of
gut afterward!

Dear Arthur,
after reading your message below, I re-read your introductory text, and
found a few things that are still somewhat unclear to me:
1. The viola in Sultzbach's title is now definitely considered as being a
"viola da mano" no? What about the assertions that F. also played the viol

I'm afraid I wrote a message much too short. I'm not implying people in
the US or California don't know how to spell Weiss, but someone who is
not in ancient music might. It's a funny mistake, and it cannot be made

Sorry, Donatella, I blame Hollywood. They had a great plan for a TV
show, then they spelled the title wrong and there were no German lute
players. Ever!

Playing Francesco's music could be a good choice. I found a nice longer

for his birthday.

The third day has come and gone, but we can still hope for his
resurrection. Maybe all it takes is collective hope on the 18th. Do we
need to set a time?
