Yes, it's a hold sign. Similar signs occur in many other printed and
manuscript sources of lute music. They simply help you identify
which notes need holding to preserve melodic lines in a polyphonic
texture. They compensate for the fact that tablature rhythm signs do
not tell you how

This is mainly directed at people who use AOL, but might
be relevant for others in the future..
- AOL has this feature, where you can mark mail as spam. If
you mark enough mail from someone as spam, all mail from
that person to AOL is blocked. Sounds like a good way to
cut down on
