OK - Ignorant question here. My Zoom H2 allows 'mic gain' to be
controlled independently of 'recording level'. How do these differ
from each other, and how should they be used?

Hi William,
Mic Gain 3 position switch on the side of the unit which coarsely sets the
gain of the analog pre-amplifier for the microphone.
Record Level fine control of level which does not quite work as it should. Accessed by pressing Rec Button once to go into
pause mode,
I haven't changed the strings on my lute in a long time and I need to
replace them. I can't remember the details of the ones I have on now.
Gut is too expensive but any advice for anything else would be very
welcome. Typical G lute, A440, string length 60cms.
Thanks
Stuart

Hi Stuart,
I know how you and others feel that gut is too expensive but I feel I
ought to put my experience out there.
10 years ago I bit the bullet and bought 5th and 6th course
fundamentals of roped gut. They came in a length that if not cut and
the remainder wrapped around the peg
John,
I have one for a Ren. lute in the case and really like it. Two trips
from New Mexico to Vancouver and back as checked baggage with no
problems. I would recommend the optional reflective white color
instead of the standard black.
Best regards,
Bill Eisele

Sean, I'm not up on the listserv abbreviations, so I initially thought
you were calling me a jerk, but in Norwegian or something. Sven said to

John,
As an initial on a page can set the tone for that page for a long
time, I fear for the offense taken. Please accept my apologies as no
such meaning was intended. I'm sure the thumb will be fine.

A question to the theorbo experts: does meantone tuning works fine for
theorbo's solo repertoire? I'm refering mostly to 17th century Italian
composers. For continuo it seems to be fine as you can manage the
fingerings for a better intonation.
Any advice will be welcomed.
