Stuart, I once went nuts trying to do this - I couldn't figure out why the knot would not hold, even though I was following the instructions faithfully. Eventually it occurred to me that it could be due to my fret material. I was using varnished/smooth string gut. I tried again after lightly sa

Still one opinion: I like and prefer the knot that David vE shows as the 2nd alternative in his page http://www.vanedwards.co.uk/fretknot.htm I learned that knot from my old lute teacher Leif Karlson, student of Michael Shaeffer. Very strong and reliable knot! Perhaps that will work? Arto
