Does anyone know where I might find plans to build an alto lute (in A,
around 54 cm string length). Surfing the net there seem to be quite a
few for 60 cm lutes but not for any small instruments. I don't think my
skills would be up to scaling larger plans down. Any ideas?

Hi Nigel,
I don't know of any plans for such a lute, but scaling things is not
difficult with a photocopier! You just need to remember to redraw the
string band (width across the strings at nut and bridge) and
consequently neck widths and pegbox, otherwise they will be too small.
For a 6c

There are the quirky Freiberger catherdral lutes: These small lutes that were
part of a whole collection of instruments of an alter display from Frieberg
Cathedral in Saxony. They were removed during a restoration and examined, and
they are real instruments! The University in Leipzig

Well...as long as you used authentic 16th Century hair-ties
I just went with my gut feeling ... :)

Hi Dominic,
I have what is probably a baroque guitar newbie question. The Marionas
that I find is on page 7 of book 2 of the 1697 publication of Sanz.
Is this the version you are using?
In your recording and others that I have found I hear the chord progressions
of the introduction and am not sure
Perhaps Dominic will reply in detail - but he does say in his original
message that it is his own extended version and you wont find a lot of it in
Sanz.
The strummed bit at the beginning is the standard chord sequence for the
Marionas i.e.
C major G major A minor F major G major C major.
Hi guys
I've always been fascinated by BWV 1025 and think that this is where Bach
(late in his careeer) gets to shine as a violinist in the serendipid meeting
between him and Weiss.
Any chance of the lute part being available digitally anywhere?
Best regards
G.

Two of my students are playing the G major concerto for two mandolins. They'd
like me to play continuo on my archlute. Does anyone know where a bass part
(with or without figures) could be obtained?
Thanks,

Thank you Monica. That was exactly what I was looking for. I will check the
Santiago de Murcia as well.
