Here are two short stories, when he was teaching here in Finland on summers 1985 and 1986: 1) In summer 1986 I was very beginner in theorbo playing, and during the early music course Jim composed a very good theorbo exercise to me. And it is also a veru beautiful piece. Jim also created a nice story of the piece: He told me that he found it in the "attic of the oldest house of the course center"... We all were then not so experienced team players. Jim asked us: "Do you know, what is the most important instument of musician?" We all were waiting for the answer. After a small pause Jim showed his pencil, and said: "It is this." Since then I have always had a pencil with me in ensembles and orchestras. I scanned some diapositives I photographed in 1985 and 1986. The quality is not very good, but if you wish to use some of these, you are welcome - just let me know.
