Have you tried VLC player? A lot quicker than QT and SC, plays
anything (audio/video) and easy-peasy. It's free.

There is no universal player for media that will always work, but as
a general rule, it is best to use programs like the free VLC player
for media. QT is pretty buggy.
VLC runs on most platforms--here is the MAC version.
