If you're on an iMac you can record directly into iMovie using the
iSight.

YouTube now allows upload directly from a webcam. If you don't want
anyone else to see it, you can choose that option. It also saves your
hard drive from clogging up.

The main reason for choosing a webcam rather than a video camera is
obvious: price. Webcams can be purchased for less than $50. But again,
obviously, there is going to be a tradeoff for that low price, and that
comes in the lower resolution and lower image quality of webcam output
vs. that

might be possible using older used macs too. Apple has technically
obsoleted lots of machines with recent OS X upgrades, Leopard wont run on
older G4's, and snow leopard on

Some DSLRs have a seperate Audio-in jack. If so you could go through a
USB mic, to whatever computer software you use, out the computer's
audio out jack and then into the camera to be recorded there. Check
what kind of audio files it can create first.

I have a Nikon P5000 digital photo camera. Video is 640x480 dpi 30f/s,
decent enough for YouTube, as it turns out (
Thanks again, David. That video on you tube is very clear - entirely
adequate, as you say. I have very good audio recording gear, so will
check out Samplitude, or other syncing software.
