Hello, friends!

Please forgive the mass mailing. I'm trying to get the word out about
three terrific workshops where I'll be teaching
   lute/theorbo/guitar/continuo this summer.

Please do me the favor of forwarding this to anybody who might want to
be aware: students, friends, colleagues, professors, etc. !!!!

   Many thanks in advance!

   of the workshops.

   [1]Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute (TBSI)

June 4-17 at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto, Ontario

Application deadline: March 20, but has been extended (applications are
   still being accepted)

   FMI: [2]Charlotte Nediger

TBSI is an intense 14-day residency in Baroque performance practice
with faculty from the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. Offerings are
vast, including lute masterclasses and presentations on special topics,
continuo classes, vocal/instrumental/mixed ensembles, orchestra, opera
workshops, Baroque dance classes, private lessons, special lectures and
presentations. This year will be the eighth annual TBSI, and this very
tightly organized workshop was extremely strong from the beginning and
has gotten even better with each year. The overall level of the
participants is pretty tough to beat. Financial
assistance/scholarships are sometimes available - inquire for details.

   [3]Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute (BPI)

June 21-July 5 at Oberlin Conservatory, Oberlin, Ohio

"Music in London, 1659-1759: from the birth of Purcell until the death
   of Handel"

   Application deadline: May 1

FMI: [4]Catharina Meints or [5]Anna Hoffmann

BPI is now in its 38^th year, and offers a strong faculty, unmatched
facilities (including one of the best music libraries in the U.S. as
well as a new theorbo and Baroque guitar by Michael Schreiner which are
available to students), and a generous offering of masterclasses,
faculty concerts, lectures, chamber music opportunities, and classes in
topics such as Baroque dance and continuo. It is possible to attend
only week 1 or week 2 of BPI, though attendance at both weeks is
strongly encouraged. I can offer one special tuition scholarship for
one advanced lute student who can attend both weeks and hasn't attended
BPI before, and there may be work/study positions available. New this
year is that I'll be offering a beginning lute class (for those without
any previous experience) in addition to the regular lute morning
   masterclass.

[6]International Baroque Institute at Longy (IBIL)

July 24-August 2 at the Longy School of Music, Cambridge, MA

"The Venice-Dresden Connection: A Seminar on Baroque music
   of Italy and Germany."

   Application deadline: May 1

   FMI: [7]Phoebe Carrai

The Longy Institute features a stellar international faculty and offers
eight full days of masterclasses, ensembles, coachings, student &
faculty performances, lectures, projects, etc., all at the Longy School
right around the corner from Harvard square. IBIL really has a special
collegial atmosphere and an extremely strong participant level, as well
as a fantastic and dedicated faculty. Work/study positions are
   available.
