I have been reading with interest the machinations of the lxqt team's
progress. I am wondering whether there is an official iso (or will be)
or ppa/repo to install this system for testing and trying out? I seem

Hmmm, I’d prefer 0.9.5 out as soon as possible and the tool tips added to
the next version. This would gives us a reasonably bug free version for
Lubuntu.
