OK, but how do I specify TEXINPUTS? That variable isn't defined in my
environment.

Then put in the approriate shell init file either of

Something is wrong.
I can't commit to the lyx-1_0_x repository.
Anyway, I installed LyX pre4 + a few updates on the local machine
at the university, and the result was two serious bug-reports
regarding tables.
Sometimes, the rendering would go completely bananas in LyX.
