A short introduction to LaTeX (to have a quick idea of what there's below)

4) Advanced features (shortcuts, presentations, instant preview with XY-pic and

and I'm not very sure where from to begin. Some ready materials
(slides on the advantages of LyX/LaTeX over MS Word and the hord, step
by step tutorials for creating your first document in LyX, using
bibliography and fancier features) would be of enormous help.

Changing the font size in the text style menu while using the slides

maybe previous versions as well). The normal font size in slides is
larger than in normal (say, article) document classes. If no font

This is a known bug (the formula inset ignores the font size outside).
On screen (zoom at 125%), the math characters are about half the size
as the text. I don't think that this used to be the case.

Yes, I think that this is the reason.
When I try to use \onlyslides{1-99} in the preamble of a slides class file,
the dvi/ps file only outputs through the eighth slide. The ninth slide is my
first note. That is, it's not printing out the note, as it shouldn't, but
then it doesn't print out any of the slides after
Has anyone tried to use slides-only or notes-only in the slides class?

I've just started splitting up my slides of lecture notes, and it seems
that the page counter is not used. \thepage is initialized to 0, and
after I reset it, the first page remains 1.
I didn't find anything about this in Extended.lyx

I try to hand out lecture notes that are virtually identical to my

with an idea to automatically create successor slides (if the page is

Hi.
I just downloaded and compiled Lyx 1.0.0 on my Redhat 5.2 linux machine.
I tried the template slides document and got several errors.
I have managed to locate the errors.
First, there are two fatal spelling errors in slides.layout:
a command that should be spelled

Well, I wouldn't completely ignore it, really. I know many people that
prefer to read printed matter over staring at the screen.

I say - ignore the printed version.
It's impossible to fix the manual to be nice to A4 and
US paper at the same time.
Instead, try to think of ways that LyX could be more intelligent
to fix this automatica

I concur with John wholeheartedly.
I put together a presentation of significant length with *slides* about
three years ago. My experience was the original putrification of Evil
Red Text, in my mind. The advantage of multiple colors is that you
don't actually have to read ERT or think
. We need it because "slides.cls" is one of the
Standard Five for LaTeX2e. However, we don't have the proper
facilities to support it in LyX.
Have any of you ever used the slides layout, or am I the only one?

Did anyone check John Weiss' slide patch in the docs (Mike)? How about
in lyx-1_0_x/lib/layouts?
By the way, I looked at the patch. John, did you misspell visible and

Because in your patch the LatexNames are lyxinvisibe
