LyX can always be used as a tool in learning LaTeX if that is desired.

I have problems viewing dvi files on a new installation of Lyx (v.
1.1.4fix1) running on Suse 6.4. Lyx runs fine, but nothing happens when I
try to view dvi files. When I try to export as dvi it exports as tex.
Initially I thought is was a problem with printing as this doesn't work
either.

I've recently installed RedHat 7. I'm having a great deal of trouble with
the compilation of lyx-1.1.5fix1. ./configure runs without complaint but,
when I try to compile, it crashes and burns. Here's the relevant error
messages:
g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../src -I../../images -I./../
For a new installation, LyX/LaTeX/TeX takes a while to generate fonts
for printing and display. Make sure there is no font generation activity
before concluding that nothing is happening.
