Difference between "New Page" and "Page Break"

What is the difference between "New Page" (\newpage{}) and a "Page Break" (\pagebreak{})? They seem to be the same - is there any reason I would use one over the other? Thanks, Steven

I don't seem to be able to do this. If I put a \frontmatter command in before my title, anything longer than five words produces a compile error. What am I missing? TIA Richard
