I would like to set the main caption beside a float figure and the captions of
the subfloats under the corresponding subfigures. I don't really understand how
I can realize this. I attached an exemplary lyx document.

Of course that's the problem! How silly of me.
I changed those modules back in the days when the internationalization was not
complete
and then simply forgot about them...

It depends the class (*.cls) that you are using.
Sometimes it can be modified by using renewcommand in the preamble.

No, I installed the Ubuntu version. So -- I need to build this thing?
I had the same problem then ToolsPreferencesLanguage SettingsSpellchecker
In spellchecker engine select Enchant, also enable Spellchecker continuously.

In spellchecker engine select "Enchant", also enable Spellchecker continuously.
