Same problem here too. (also MacOS X 10.4.2)
Did anyone experience the other problem I mentioned? Instead of
umlauts in the german interface 1.4.0pre2 shows u, a and o in all
interface elements (menus, popups, dialogues) but in the text window
umlauts are just as intended.

Dear Bennet!
Many thank's for that build. Everything works fine so far, except
that the german umlauts dont show up correctly in the menus and
preferences dialogues. In the text-window I can type umlauts and
other special chars without any troubles. I have attached an example
screenshot.
