Is your TeX installation usable? What version of tetex are you running?

I just installed lyx 1.04 on a redhat 6 intel box.
I tried both rpm's available in the bin directory
of the ftp archive. Bothe installed fine. But both
come up with the same error when I run them:
A window pops up proclaiming Lyx wasn't able to find
