For now, you can try this freeware utility: http://www.southbaypc.com/AutoSizer/ . LyX is one of the applications I use it for.
It may not be worth the effort for just one application, but if there are other stubborn apps that you use on an everyday basis, this utility works great. I am using LyX 1.4.1 under Windows. Is it possible to change the settings such that LyX comes up in a maximized window, rather than the semi-minimized window as it does now? (Of course, maximization is only a mouse click away, but still I would like to avoid this).
