After posting an unconscionable number of messages late last week and over the weekend about build and configuration difficulties with Solaris-8 and a few minor key binding bugs, I finally settled down to work with LyX-1.2.0pre4 today. Now it's time to say is Congratulations! and the heartiest of Thanks! to the authors and others who labored so long and hard on this release.
One of the documents I was working on was an article which includes 31 large, high-resolution photographs, some scanned from ancient glass plates. When I originally wrote the article with LyX-1.1.5, I had to convert the photos from jpegs and tiffs to Postcript, which was laborious and produced a document that took a very long time to load into LyX on our Solaris boxes. With LyX-1.2.0pre4, I can work with the photos in their original formats, which makes a document that loads very quickly. The output to Postscript (and presumably .pdf) is handled automagically and gracefully by LyX. What a delight! Bravo! If any of you developers ever come to Providence, RI, look me up. The beer/wine/champagne is on me! Regards, -- Ronald Florence www.18james.com
