'cache' and 'lifetime'. With no result.

subfolder "cache" which is over 5GB big. It mostly
contains images from my projects in .eps and .png formats. Is it
safe to empty the cache subfolder? Is there a way to flush it from
within LyX? Such a big cache building up can be an issue on small
systems.
