custom list of figures possible?

Hello, I'm currently writing a document with figures that have long captions. So the list of figures becomes very unsightly. Is there a feature to specify short captions which appear in the list of figures? If not, what would be the best trick to get this? I'm currently using Lyx version 1.3.
