Thanks Zack, I'll use Preview until such a time that Skim access is restored.

Skim seems to be able to handle larger PDFs and is more stable. It also works

Hi,
While I cannot confirm the problems with Skim on 10.8.4, I can suggest that
Preview has much improved. I should clarify that it has not yet given us access
to all the elements of PDF files, such as tables and forms, but it's reading
experience now very closely matches what you would receive
No offense, but why would you need that if the compatibility in the native
reader has improved? Are there certain types of things that voiceover can still
not handle?

Since updating to 10.8.4, has anyone else noticed that PDFs no longer seem to
be readable in Skim?
Thanks
Take care

Hi Josh,
Yes, the behavior with PDF documents is improved, although it is still not the
same as viewing them on Windows. Nevertheless, you can get all the text from
them now without having to go through contortions. I trust that Apple will
release more substantial changes in 10.9.
Best,
Zack.

Hi guys, in the release notes for OS 10.8.4, it states that there is improved
compatibility with PDF documents with voice over. I'm quite impressed by this,
but I'm wondering if anybody has actually had experience with it, and if this
is actually as it states. Thank you.

You can go to the header and choose to save or open the attachments, or you can
go to file and click save attachments, what ever is easier..

Hi Matthew,
Great that Safe Boot mode (holding down the shift key when you power on) fixed
the problems. It does clean up some things automatically, so even though you
can't get VoiceOver in Safe Boot mode, simply having your Mac boot into Safe
Mode, then restarting it normally, will often work

It is, yes. Hold it down as soon as you press the power button, and you'll be
in the recovery mode. VO starts up with cmd-f5 as usual.

Thanks Sarah, There is both a bookmarks menu, and a bookmarks bar, and I wanted
to delete from the bookmarks menu. With both yours and Colin's explanations, I
was able to figure it out! Even though I've been using computers since the
80's, I am not particularly computer minded. I do my best a
Hi Matthew,
A couple of suggestions of things to try before reinstalling the operating
system and booting into the recovery partition. (By the way, I've never had to
reinstall my operating system because of a failure on my Mac, although there
have been times when I've booted from a cloned back
Hi Colin, Thanks so much! That worked for sure! I think I was getting
confused because when I press Cmd-Option-B, I was getting either a Hide or Show
bookmarks message. Anyway, it worked with a little dining around.

You could do that, but if it's too late then I guess you have no choice but to
use the partition for now anyway.
Take care.

Hi Sarah and all,
Just curious here, but will the Recovery partition be able to do that? I
thought that because the partition resides on the same disk as the OS, Disk
utility is unable to scan everything. You might have better luck doing what
Sarah suggests from a bootable backup.

Hi Desi!
OK it should work for you!
1. hit command+option+b
you should end up in a search field!
2. shift tab to the 1st table and interact!
Find the bookmarks menu! stop interacting and tab twice to the table of those
bookmarks and delete any you need to!

Thjere is a collection called book marks menu. I edit mine all the time there.
so hit cmd option b and navigate to the book marks bar collection I think
that's what that's called, or if not book marks menu collection if that exists.
Take care.

Hi Sarah,
Thanks! For whatever reason, that didn't work for me! Maybe it's because when
I add a new bookmark, I have it saved directly to the bookmarks menu.

Before you do that see if you can boot in to th recovery consul by holding down
cmd plus r at start up. If you can, turn on voice over and go to disk
utilities and scan the hd for any disk issues, if it finds them click repair
then try again. then repair permissions on the drive.
Good luck. an

Yeah, that would be alright, then.
