How can I select a different file format for a pages document other then the
default .pages one? when I pulled up the save dialog, I didn’t see any choices
for the file format and it already had the .pages one selected..

Hello Cait,
To save a Pages document in another format you need to use Export to which is
in the File menu. The available formats are: PDF, Word, Plain Text, EPUB and
Pages09.

is there any way to tell pages to just save in word as the default? It
seems even when I try to save a .dox file Pages insists on making it into a
pages file unless I go through export every time. this is pretty time
consuming.

No there is not. I do this with pdfs all the time and it's very quick and easy
to do. The reason for pdfs is the user cannot modify thefile.
