I'm afraid the subject of this mail isn't the greatest. I'm trying to
implement a system as follows:
I have materials I want to give to students. However, I only want to give the
file(s) to each student if they have ben present at that particular lecture.

Hello!
If you work in an official school or University, you can create courses with
iTunes U Cours Manager and make them private for your students or public, as
you wish. That will let you give your students specific links to download the
materials and they can submit assessments from within iTu
That's an excellent idea and one I've looked into. However there's a lot of
red tape to go through (It's apple, are we surprised?) and I need to get this
sorted quickly.

Yes, it seems to be a long procedure, but it doesn't take as much as it seems.
Once you have a test course you can submit, you just fill the application and
they take just 2 or 3 days to reply.
