I had a similar problem with XFat, that’s why I suggested MSDos fat. When I
put the drive on my air port extreme, not even my mac would see it. However,
with MSDos fat it does.

With Time Machine, it should automatically format it for you. That's why I
warned you about data being erased because that happens during the process.
