You could, but the only way that I know of using that method is
disk utility, if you do it before you do disk utility, you will

hi john that is really interesting if you do need to do this of course first of
all you do your back up and then where do you go to actually do a clean re
install. i feel i am doing very well with the mac and made tremendous progres
yesterday in my other project.

The subject of Installing OSX onto a Mac frequently comes up here, I'm in the
processing of doing a clean install so given that I've never attempted this

I didn't read the article but if you google DiskmakerX this free utility works
greate with Lion, Mountain Lion as well Mavericks. Formerly called LionMaker.
I used it last Sunday and very incredible.
Let me know I can put it in our DropBox.
