I wonder if this might help. The information comes from the Audible site and it
solved my authorisation problems.

Activation Loop (MAC)

I am using a Mac. Every time I quit iTunes or reboot my computer, when I
attempt to play one of my Audible titles I am prompted for my username and
password. This occurs even though I was able to play my Audible titles before I
quit iTunes or rebooted my computer. In addition every time I sync my iPod,
iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad with iTunes, all of my Audible titles are removed
from my device until I authorize my computer again.

Resolution:

When activating your Audible account for iTunes on a Mac operating system, it
is recommended that you log in to your computer as a user with administrative
privileges. Once you activate your Audible account for iTunes on your Mac you
can login to a user with non administrative privileges to listen to your
downloaded Audible content or to transfer to your Apple Device.

To activate your Audible account for iTunes on the Mac operating system simply
attempt to play one of your downloaded Audible titles in iTunes. If your
Audible account is not yet activated on the computer you will be prompted to
enter in your Audible username and password for the title you are trying to
play. Simply enter in your Audible username and password and select OK . Note:
You must be connected to the Internet during this process.

Step 1. First, Quit iTunes ( iTunes menu > Quit iTunes ) .
Step 2. Browse to the following location on the computer: MAC Hard Drive >
Library > Preferences
Step 3. Press CTRL and click the mouse button on the folder, Preferences , and
select Get Info .
Step 4. Ensure that the Privileges for all the Names under Sharing &
Permissions are set to Read & Write . Note: You may have to select the lock in
the lower right hand corner and enter in the administrative password before you
are able to change the Permissions.
Step 5. Launch iTunes and attempt to play one of your Audible titles. When
prompted to activate simply enter in your Audible username and password for
that title and select OK . Once the activation window goes away and the title
starts playing, pause the title.
Step 6. With iTunes still open, browse to the following location on the
computer: MAC Hard Drive > Library > Preferences
Step 7. In the Preferences folder will be a file called com.audible.data.plist.
Press CTRL and click the mouse button on the file, com.audible.data.plist , and
select Get Info .
Step 8. Ensure that the Privileges for all the Names under Sharing &
Permissions are set to Read & Write . Note: You may have to select the lock in
the lower right hand corner and enter in the administrative password before you
are able to change the Permissions.
Step 9. Quit iTunes, then relaunch iTunes, and attempt to play an Audible
title. If the title starts playing you will no longer have to authorize your
Audible account each time you quit iTunes or reboot your computer. If you are
still prompted for your Audible username and password, proceed to the next
step.
Step 10. Quit iTunes and browse to the following location on the computer: MAC
Hard Drive > Library > Preferences
Step 11. In the Preferences folder delete the file com.audible.data.plist .
Step 12. Launch iTunes again and attempt to play an Audible title. When
prompted to activate simply enter in your Audible username and password and
select OK. Once the activation window goes away and the title starts playing,
quit iTunes. Launch iTunes again and attempt to play the same Audible title.
You will now be able to play your Audible content without being prompted for
authorization each time.
