Before I go for those apps, can you confirm if Text Edit allows for adding passwords? I can get round the Windows doc issue by just opening it on my Windows machine, and copying it to my Mac, but I would then want to password it. Will Text Editor allow for this? as I can't seem to find such an o

I use to see that problem with PDF files on my Windows machines, but that was because the file had been scanned in as an image, and hadn't started life as a text document. The doc in this case is a word 2007 doc. Maybe Text Edit is too basic to handle passworded files? - Andy On 18 Aug 2013, at

Hmm Interesting. It looks like it is trying to decode the file and failing badly, very very badly. I've seen this happen on several pdfs I've tried to open and not being able to even read them. If anyone else has any ideas on how to open pw protected docs that were made on other forms feel free

I know the ways to open files, my problem is with a password protected one. When I go to open it, text edit opens and VO says e degress plus or minus. I've tried typing in the password on that screen and hitting enter; tab; and VO space, but non of these work. If I interact with that line that
