Never tried out any of the Mac word processors except for Text Edit and Pages,
which I checked out in more detail today. They’re pretty good, but I guess I’ll
know more when I start doing my weekly grocery lists on here.

Yep, I agree pretty much with that though the scripting of Nisus does make it
stand out, you can get a whole heap of scripts from the Nisus web site to try
out and modify to your liking.
Interestingly Nisus Writer Pro contains a lot of code used in Open Office,
haven't used Open Office for ages
Nisus has native RTF support, which Pages currently lacks, and arguably some
more powerful features and scripting abilities, etc. Still, I’ve been using
Pages more and more lately, and it’s definitely worth having alternatives.
Best,
Zack.

I still use Nisus Writer Pro, for me its a question of layout more than
anything else now that Pages has come a long way in a short space of time, try
Nisus and you'll see what I mean.
There there are times when Pages, Text Edit, iText Express etc won't read a
document correctly with Voiceover,
The majority of them except the tables functionality and we've talked about
workarounds to that in previous posts.

well, it sounds great in the review, but how does it work with VO? What
percentage of these great features are actually useable by a VoiceOver user?
I'd like to find a good useable word processor for the MAC, but I want
something with more than just klunky and clumsy, "sometimes" accessibility.
A very good price, wish I'd been able to Buy Nisus Writer Pro for that .

According to the developer's site description, the Express version
does not have support for features such as Table of Contents,
Indexing, Cross References, Bookmarks, Track Changes, Comments,
Watermarks, Export to ePub, and Export to .docx (though it can
import .docx format Office documents).

Any info on the main distinction between pro and express?

Hi Paula,
NWP is very accessible overall. I have used this app for years and have found
ways to accomplish pretty much everything VO. Unfortuantely, some things are
not curently accessible, including tables and VO's acknowledgement of Headings.
Feel free to write back if I can be of any more

Gee! that's a giveaway price concerning Nisus Writer pro, I thoroughly
recommend it for a word processor, have been using it here for over 5 years
now. Its only real downside is that you can't access tables, developers are
aware of this.
Having said that I just downloaded the latest update thi
Hi Dane
Yes, I noticed that a while back while writing a report.
I don't think it's a VoiceOver issue since Lynne has also said that she's
seeing sluggish behaviour even without VO.
I think it's a Nisus issue.

Hi Dane.
That is correct. But that does not solve the problem. There is a bog in the way
nisus makes an epub file, so that chapters will not behave as it ought to. I
can not find out how to explain in english, what the problem is.
Best regards Annie.

Perhaps I don't fully understand what you're trying to do as I don't use the
Epub feature but would the command-enter combination help? That inserts a page
break, I think you'll find it in the insert menu as well.

Hi all.
I have contacted the developer of nisus writer pro. I have two problems with
nisus, I also like it much better than pages. Problem number one is tables, I
hope they can do something to fix that in the future, and I hope all who uses
nisus writer pro will let them know, that we are more
No, that's the only big problem with Nisus I've found thus far, you can create
tables easily enough but you can't read them with Voiceover.
You can insert tables where you like in your documents and you can see them
with Voiceover - that is to say you can see where they are in the document and
Hi all,
Just wondering if Nissus writer pro handles tables any better with VoiceOver
than does Pages as I've always found navigating tables in Pages to be painful
at best.
Thanks for any comments.

Hi lynne,
I'm glad to hear this about Nisus writer pro. I never did purchase Pages, I
kept thinking that an update had to be coming soon and I wanted to wait for
that. I'm fairly confident now that Apple will update it to Take advantage of
the autosave and full screen features of Lion. Hopefull
