I just unzip the epub files into their own folder, then load them
into safari, and read them that way.
Don't think this will work for drm enabled versions, but since I
don't have any of those, it's not possible for me to check.

There's another ebook reader available from the Mac App Store called Bookol. It
will read DRM-free epub a little better than Stanza will in my experience. It
takes a bit of getting used to, but is a great program.
