Hi All, Voice Dream Reader is an app that I consider to be in the "must get" category for anyone who does significant amounts of reading on their iOS device. You can read PDFs, Word documents, plain text, Apple Pages, RTF, DRM-free ePub eBooks, and HTML. There's direct integration with Bookshare, so you can log in directly, browse, and download books. You can also pull in books from Gutenberg, and there is direct integration with Dropbox, which makes uploading easy, as well as integration with popular reading apps such as Instapaper.
Your place is saved within each book or document, along with your voice selection and reading rate. Before iOS 7, you could purchase additional Acapela voices (for $1.99 each) or NeoSpeech voices (for $2.99 each) for other languages or dialects (including a few not supported by Apple's voices). In iOS 7, you can use the system voices. This is great for anyone who reads in multiple languages, especially since Bookshare's app, Read2Go ($19.99), only supports English. Voice Dream Reader receives frequent updates and additions of features. With the addition of DAISY 2.02 support in the last release, this has really become an all-in-one reader app. It won't handle eBooks with DRM (such as most of the commercial books sold for iBooks, the Nook, or the Kindle), and Read2Go still has better support for reading with Braille devices, but I strongly recommend this to any VoiceOver user who doesn't already own this app. For low-vision and print-disabled users there are additional features, such as large font size selection and highlighting of text while reading. Here's the App Store URL: Voice Dream Reader - Text to Speech (on sale for $4.99, regularly $9.99) by Voice Dream LLC https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/voice-dream-reader-text-to/id496177674?mt=8 This sale runs through Sunday.
