This is one of those things that I've been complaining about for
years. It's not just apple either, I don't think I've ever run
across an imap server that behaves properly.

You're absolutely right; I'm not disputing that for a second. And yes, most
users very probably don't bother to configure their applications to optimal. We
always change those options in our accounts, always have. But there is still
this problem which Travis described. It's quite
