If you're using a British keyboard then the pound key or # is typed with
Option+ 3. On a U.S., Canadian, or Australian keyboard It's typed with Shift+3.
But then, all we dollar users have to press Option+3 to get the symbol for
pound (sterling) or £.

Hmm I tried it. shift 3 here in the usa and it worked good. Just be sure to
clear out the number entries in the dial pad area before you enter anything.
