Why didn't they put power nap on mid-2012 mbp without retina display?
I looked and don't see it and I honestly think it'd be a nice thing to

the answer to your question is unfortunately no, only the latest macs support
this feature. It has to do with hardware as well as software, so no apps would
be able to I'm afraid. I, too, would like this feature I believe. Ah well.

Power nap also requires a firmware upgrade to work for the supported models.
This is a hardware limitation, because you can't run power nap without
excessive heat generation except on the newest processors, which are built with
on-board flash memory
