Thanks you Stephen and Tom. This worked perfectly, the line above the average was the total for the column and I had used the "autosum" icon which when you left one of the lines blank it gave you the #VALUE warning, once I change it from the autosum to a formula then the entire spreadsheet

Tom -- If you are referring to negative numbers, you need to highlight the affected area of the spreadsheet, go to Format>Cells>Number and then either highlight number, currrency, or accounting. You can then set your preference as to how negative numbers are handled. If the problem is with all n
