I guess it was formatted when installed?
I guess you have the Finder settings to view hard disk?
I have installed SSD’s and have had no problems.
If you have done this then it may be that there was a problem with the
installation or it’s above my pay grade to help.

I just added an ssd drive to my mac mini and it does not show up?
