My coworker found this site:

Which basically says to do the emoy fix, then run perl Makefile.PL,
then edit out all references to arch -i386 in the resulting makefile,
and proceed.
It seems to have worked here.

We just ran into the same problem here. Same experience as you, as well
(works on OSX, not on OSX server, etc.) We haven't done anything to
the perl install, so I think it's something else. If we solve it, I'll
post about it.
