Thank you very much! I have no need for an rsync daemon and thought that
this had been setup by macports automatically. If it's not necessary I am
glad to unload it. That seems to have done the trick.

cause. I was immediately bombared by rampant macports related error
messages that come in every 20-30 seconds. A snipped is here:
