I find it confusing that the build/host/target system is x86_64 yet there are
messages indicating otherwise.

recommended to install/re-install OSXFUSE anytime a fuse4x dependent port is
installed, to make sure OSXFUSE is used instead of fuse4x?

I have additional problems with smartmontools on OS X that I don't have on
get on Fedora 18 from package
smartmontools-6.0-2.fc18 is:
root# update-smart-drivedb
/usr/share/smartmontools/drivedb.h updated from trunk
Also, this was working with smartmontools 5.42 built with Macports/XCode maybe
6 months ago.
Any suggestions?

correctly, but I'm skeptical it will do
it correctly on OS X (which is rather anti-social when it comes to allowing
applications to opt out of system level color management, when the application
implements such things itself).

e, it's just a matter of trashing the virtual disk
file.
Whereas for Boot Camp the partitioning alone makes me reach for a pill bottle.
If you do go down the road of Boot Camp, don't touch the disk again with either
Apple Disk Utility, or a Windows disk utility for the purpose of resizing
anything. It'll end in data loss.

partition hell, and Apple supplies old drivers for Windows (so you're better
off tracking them down yourself). So really you're better off just sticking
with OS X video editing software, or getting a dedicated PC.

This is what
#x27;d really like is a single smartmontools 6 pkg that will install on
intel 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 systems. If I can't have that, I'd take
a.) universal (i386/x86_64) for 10.6 pkg
b.) x86_64 only for 10.7 and 10.8 pkg

that there isn't already a binary for this somewhere. Bad enough Apple doesn't
just include it.

Yeah I figured the Macports documentation example was that ancient, but was
lazy and copy pasted that line with just the arch and version changes.

I am on x86_64 Darwin 10.6. I need to compile smartmontools for PPC Darwin 9.
If I change build_arch to ppc, the build fails presumably because I'm on Snow
Leopard which doesn't support ppc. But I don't see an option in macports.conf
to tell it to build for another platform.
Suggestions?
