Ok, it seems that a .bashrc is not required anymore. I added its content to the
.profile, removed the .bashrc and .bash_profile, and it works fine.
Thanks to Rainer and Bradley!

Just information:
On my macbook with OS X 10.6.4 there was no .bashrc in my home dir.
I created it in order to install aliases and added a .bash_profile with "source
~/.bashrc", because bash did not read the .bashrc after starting the terminal.
Then the "port"-command did not work anymore. I ex
Hi all,
I tried to install pdftk on my MacBook 10.6.4, which has gcc42 as
lib-dependency. installing gcc42 failed.
Did anyone already have the same problem?
Thanks!

I have vim installed with several variants, also mutt-devel.
When upgrading them I always find them kept.

This worked fine, but only the first time my wm launched an xterm.

Hi everyone,
does anybody know how I can tell my xterm to invoke the new bash 4
(which I installed via Macports) when starting up? My wm is
ratpoison, but ratpoison does nothing than to start xterm. Ratpoison
in turn is invoked by X.app via ~/xinitrc.

Hi all,
does anybody know if a command history is available in port's
interactive mode? It would be nice if I could correct type-errors in
a more comfortable way than typing the line again. Tab-completion
would be appreciated, too.
Thanks!

Hi all,
in order to upgrade libtool I uninstalled recode which depends on
libtool. Trying to re-install recode I get the following error message:

I installed bash 3.2.25 via Macports and tried it instead of the pre-
installed 2.05b.0. There is no maintainer listed in the Portfile,
therefore I post to the Mailing List. I tested it with the X-Server

Now I recapitulated the whole sequence I described in my last mail,
except that I installed vim instead of gcc43. Now the "installed"-
selector matches the installed ports as it should.
Thus it seems that gcc43 corrupted my registry of MacPorts.

Hi,
in order to repair my port-system I removed completely the whole
software-branch "/opt" and reinstalled MacPorts (1.52 on my Intel-
MacBook with Mac OS X 10.4.10).
I installed the window-manager ratpoison as first port. "port
installed" gave me the list with one element as expected.
It may be that I damaged the registry of my port system. Is there any
way to repair it or have I to reinstall the whole software tree?
Thanks for a hint.

I did not solve this problem yet, too. I tried to:
cd /opt/local/var/macports/sources/rsync.macports.org/release/ports/
and then:
sudo portindex
...in order to get a proper PortIndex, but that did not help.
Some days ago I changed the Portfile of an old version of pwm
manually, but unfortun

Oops,
I should have read the new Portfile carefully, - it's about the newer
version 4.12. But anyway, - it might be better to have it stored on
the server, so that everyone can import it via sync-command.

Hi Jochen, hi Simon, hi all,

test it, but PMW 4.07 does not work on my machine, may be

on my Intel-MacBook I want to install pdftk, which needs gcc41.
Installing gcc41 made no problems, but at the end pdftk fails to build.
