I’ve figured out that the reason my font choice is suddenly being ignored is
that the Macports version of Gnucash is now version 3 which has an entirely
different method for overriding default fonts and other things. Since the
folder ~/.config/gtk-3.0 existed, it seemed logical to suppose that
gnucash is saying
Dynamic session lookup supported but failed: launchd did not provide a socket
path, verify that org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist is loaded!
but when I try to start dbus—session I get
/opt/local/Library/LaunchAgents/org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist: service
already loaded

I ran a “port selfupdate” a week or two ago, so I am on 2.5.2. Today I tried to
run “port reclaim” and it failed with an error about a missing table entry.
sudo port selfupdate
---> Updating MacPorts base sources using rsync
MacPorts base version 2.5.2 installed,
MacPorts base version 2.5.2 down
