For years now, whenever I try to run gimp, I see this error on pretty much every system, if I recall correctly, but certainly just now again on 10.7.5: Unable to read initialization file script-fu.init I have tried changing permissions to that file /opt/local/share/gimp/2.0/scripts/script-fu.in

BTW, there is an email chain here suggesting certain remnants of previous gimp installs left behind might cause this and I tried clearing out every remnant of gimp in my home folder until nothing was left: $ sudo fi
