Binaries over different os10 versions

Does a binary, like lynx the browser, work over several versions of os10. I have one older machine which version is 6 upgrades removed from the most recent one. Will that lynx continue to work if most of the versions are skipped by installing a more recent version of os10? -- I was thinking

Selfupdate problem

Each time I run it it reports base 2.6.2 installed and updateing to base 2.6.3. However, running it again later produces the same result. Doing port -v produces the 2.6.2 version installed. There are no error messages. Any ideas? Thanks. -- XR

Macports puts binary app. files in /opt/local/bin . The mac os uses the unix location of /bin/ for bash , that is where the default bash is found. The way to call the bash 5 version first is either to move the macports version to /bin/ or put the /opt/local/bin/ in your shell path first.

Mpv doesn't install

I tried to install mpv @0.31.0. The binary install bombed which is sometimes the case; likely there is no binary. A install started; "make" but failed. I'm using os10.10, might this have someting to do with it? Any ideas?-- XR

Hello macporters, I got the web browser lynx both by downloading the binary version and compiling one locally. Without going into much detail, there are some minor differences in how it works with speech using a screen reader. In the binary version it reads each link as I arrow up or down.
