I think I have the same problem and I limited myself to python3.5.4
I did not find any clues about the problem either.

on my MacBookPro since late 2014 and on many different Macs used by my students.
I would use the command like: sudo port install py36-tkinter +quartz
and everything was fine. I recently upgraded to MacOS 10
