Interesting developments:I realized that even though the synaptics driver was recognizing the touchpad, the driver was being unloaded when X started. To fix this I modified my xorg.conf to contain only the keyboard and synaptics, without any other pointer devices.

With my Ubuntu 6.06 on my macbook, suspend to ram works fine since yesterday.
I can't explain why, but I think that the latest update of the xinit package
in ubuntu is maybe the reason of this success because it works with my new
patched 2.6.18.1 but also with the old generic 2.6.15 fro
