I had a hard time getting the microphone to work on my MBP C2D, but
finally got it. At the end, it wasn't a kernel matter, but a mixer
one. I'm using a 2.6.22 kernel from Ubuntu. This is my configuration
in natural language (I can post the output of amixer if requested).

What helps me to get the mic running is the Line - Mic switch out of the
gentoo-wiki page. Have you tried this? Then I have sond in e.g. Audacity.
Is this fixed in 2.6.21? Haven't tried this yet. But it would be nice to have

I definitely need help with the microphone of a macbook dual core (solo).
I've tried all kernels from 2.6.18 to 2.6.21-rc5 and all the related
mactel patches.
My driver are alsa-base 1.0.13-5 and the sounds works greatly both from
the internal speakers and from the jack.
