track of your step count, there may come a day you'll want to set a
preference as to which

Yep, just use 3.5 mm headphone and connect it to the output jack.
It works on my MBP mid 2014 model year machine.

It should work for you if You need to reimage however it really now days
depends on what type of key you get.
I know I've used my key more than once on the same machine but my licence
isnn't a standard retail key.
